Glossary

The aerospace industry is wide and deep, offering the recent engineering graduate a variety of challenging employment opportunities. These opportunities include working in private industry or for the government on aircraft or spacecraft supporting commercial or defense programs.

Private Industry - Commercial

There are two categories of commercial aircraft: general aviation (non-military) aircraft and large, heavy transports (cargo and people). Companies working in general aviation aircraft develop light aircraft and helicopters for both personal and business use. These are aircraft that might be used by weekend pilots or for corporate and commuter travel. Companies that develop large, heavy transports design and build aircraft for the airlines and cargo transportation companies.
