If used correctly, meetings can be a valuable tool to help you move your organization forward. When group members participate, meetings pool the expertise of a group and allow the group to decide the best course of action. If used incorrectly, however, meetings can be a waste of time and money.

The most important thing you can do is to plan your meeting carefully. Develop an agenda and select audiovisual tools in advance. You must also keep the meeting on track, involve all participants and stay in control of the meeting.

This module offered you some tips on how to make your meetings more effective. You might also look at Robert's Rules of Order, which are used by large, formal organizations. Though small staff meetings need not obey these strict rules, they do offer valuable guidelines.
