If
used correctly, meetings can be a valuable tool to help
you move your organization forward. When group members
participate, meetings pool the expertise of a group
and allow the group to decide the best course of action.
If used incorrectly, however, meetings can be a waste
of time and money.
The most important thing you can do is to plan your
meeting carefully. Develop an agenda and select audiovisual
tools in advance. You must also keep the meeting on
track, involve all participants and stay in control
of the meeting.
This module offered you some tips on how to make your
meetings more effective. You might also look at Robert's
Rules of Order, which are used by large, formal
organizations. Though small staff meetings need not
obey these strict rules, they do offer valuable guidelines.
