Another component of making a good impression is your
appearance. While it is true that many companies have
adopted "business casual" dress codes, it is important
to realize how you dress is a reflection of the image
you project to your colleagues. Before you start, inquire
with HR, your boss or your co-workers as to what is
appropriate. Even if the dress environment is casual,
always dress professionally. If the dress code at your
workplace is business casual, it is a good idea to keep
some dress clothes at the office for unexpected meetings
with clients or high-level management.
Appearance also extends to your workstation. Keep your
desk neat and well organized. Demonstrate that you are
a professional. Never display objects, photos or calendars
that might be considered inappropriate. Your company
might have a policy regarding what can displayed. For
example, the company might only allow photos of company
products to be hung on walls or partitions. If you're
not sure, inquire at HR or ask your supervisor.
