The
Problem of Limited Guidance |
 |
| |
| Without
any direction or guidance from your supervisor,
take matters into your own hands. Speak with the
supervisor. Emphasize your eagerness to learn the
job and contribute to your group and the company.
Ask your supervisor's advice on the steps you can
take to speed up your development and to be assigned
some projects to work on. If after doing this you
still find yourself without direction, seek out
other members of your group for help and guidance.
Many engineers like to pass on their knowledge to
the next generation of engineers. Offer to assist
them. In demonstrating initiative and a willingness
to learn, you will find a suitable mentor. Also
seek out other early career engineers. They have
recently been through what you are now encountering
and can offer additional insights that can aid in
your development. |
